Program Details

This webinar training is designed to provide instruction to service provider and other related agencies whose staff work with substance abuse clients.  It pays special attention to evidence-based methods that are strength-centered to deliver a foundation the participant can apply to working with their clients.

The use of Evidence Based Practices in Substance Abuse Treatment is supported by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as well as the National Institute Drug Abuse.

Additionally, a great deal of research provides clear evidence to support the efficacy of the use of evidence-based practices over more intuitive approaches.  This webinar is presented by a member of the 2003 SAMHSA Policy Academy for Co-occurring Disorders and cover the basic approaches for substance abuse treatment including use of EBPs and support groups to enhance the skills and knowledge of the practitioner.

Program Goals and Learning Outcomes:

The program also takes a look at disorders that co-occur and serve to further complicate with treatment of substance abusing clients.  For example, the research demonstrates that persons with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders occur more often than not.  Yet our treatment approach is developed as if this is a rare circumstance.

At the end of this training participants will have received instruction on foundational concepts and basics around substance use disorders, learned what works for helping clients intrinsically change and how they are apply.

They will learn gain an understanding of co-occurring disorders and implications they must take into account when working with clients.
