webinar training is designed to provide instruction to service provider
and other related agencies whose staff work with substance abuse
clients. It pays special attention to evidence-based methods that
are strength-centered to deliver a foundation the participant can apply
to working with their clients. The
use of Evidence Based Practices in Substance Abuse Treatment is
supported by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services,
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as well as
the National Institute Drug Abuse. Additionally,
a great deal of research provides clear evidence to support the
efficacy of the use of evidence-based practices over more intuitive
approaches. This webinar is presented by a member of the 2003
SAMHSA Policy Academy for Co-occurring Disorders and cover the basic
approaches for substance abuse treatment including use of EBPs and
support groups to enhance the skills and knowledge of the practitioner. Program Goals and Learning Outcomes: The program also takes a look
at disorders that co-occur and serve to further complicate with
treatment of substance abusing clients. For example, the research
demonstrates that persons with co-occurring mental health and substance
use disorders occur more often than not. Yet our treatment
approach is developed as if this is a rare circumstance. At
the end of this training participants will have received instruction on
foundational concepts and basics around substance use disorders,
learned what works for helping clients intrinsically change and how
they are apply. They will learn gain an understanding
of co-occurring disorders and implications they must take into
