Program Details:
A
cognitive-behavioral approach is
the primary foundational model for working with clients demonstrating
anti-social behaviors. This program is designed to support the
work of treatment and reform of patients. The
course looks at the Behavioral component as well as Cognitive and
how they both work together.
Predominantly
a knowledge transfer this program aims to familiarize participants with
the concepts and and key elements of this evidence-based practice.
The
goal of this
course is to enhance the efficacy of human services staffs in
preventing
recidivism and relapse.
Program Goals and Learning Outcomes:
Participants
will be
in a position to understand how CBT as a model is applied
to guide clients with the goal of preventing relapse and
recidivism. They will also learn to help clients acquire skills for promoting prosocial and responsible behavior. Participants will;
Learn key components of CBT and Identify/describe core cognitive structures that are the focus of CBT
Identify/describe
core processes of CBT, vehicles and dynamics through which cognitive
structures are expressed that define the action focus of CBT
Learn how it applies in youth settings
Understand pathways to relapse, the process of recidivism and how to prevent them
Be in a position to help clients develop a relapse prevention plan

Mark Lowis has extensive experience in the public and
private sector for mental health and substance abuse services. He offers
assistance to agencies and facilities in the design, development, and

Mark
has provided leadership and consultation in Utilization Management (UM)
and Quality Management (QM) to various agencies and at the state level
over the years. He has helped agencies reduce their dollar amount of
loss for non-certs and denials by helping to improve Utilization Review
(UR) processes and staff trainings. Mark is a member of the
Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and provides
training and clinical supervision in this evidenced based practice.
Additionally, Mark provides team building activities and training that
help to increase the partnerships between functional departments,
management, and contractors in the field of mental health and substance
abuse. Mark has a great deal of experience designing and developing
performance measurement systems for maintaining the standards of
accrediting bodies, as well as systems for continuous quality
improvement, contracting, and services analysis.
