SUMMARY
With the push to evidence-based and strength-centered programs, many professionals ask -- should we ditch our existing program and invest in one the world says is evidence-based? Or instead get our existing program adapted into and approved as an evidence-based program? At this fall's "Working With Youth" workshops & conference participants will work with experts and colleagues to answer these and other questions. Participants will also learn how and what it takes to successfully implement either option. Sample Program Topics...
On Day-2 we will spend some time on the "business" of working with youth and the human services field that is so often lost as we bury ourselves in our work! We will work with renowned author and expert, Dr. Peter Greenwood on specific Evidence-based Programs and the promise they hold. Participants will learn to determine which programs best address their individual local situations, whether to purchase another program or adapt theirs into an EBP. Finally they will learn to successfuly integrate what is learned into their existing situations, obstacles to anticipate and how to go about dealing with them. Finally on Day-3 Mark Lowis, MSW, LMSW, MINT works with us on strength-based practices. In particular he will review how these approaches factor and are integrated into working with clients in our care. We
then wrap with a hands-on effort to develop a draft Action Plan you can
put to work upon your return to the office using what is learned.
Experts will be on hand to assist with development of your plan Day 1 - Full Day Workshop Strategies & Tactics for Preventing and Reducing Youth Delinquency & Crime Paul Elam, Ph.D., Director of Business Innovation and Project Manager, Public Policy Associates, Inc.
Days 2 - Full Day Workshop
Implementing Evidence-based Programs and Practices: Transitioning Your Program Into An EBP “Preventing and addressing youth delinquency and crime”, says Dr. Peter Greenwood, Executive Director, Association for Advancing Evidence Based Practice, “not only saves young lives from being wasted, but also prevents the onset of adult criminal careers and thus reduces the burden of crime on its victims and on society.” Finally, we are taking the mystery out of determining what constitutes an evidence-based program. Should I invest in such a program and ditch my existing program? Or instead get my program adapted into and approved as an evidence-based program? Participants will be in a position to come away equipped to answer these questions. They will also come away know how to successfully do either. Dr.
Greenwood will review evidence-based programs for various settings, the
merits of adopting an existing program vs building your existing one
into an evidence-based program with focus spent on specific programs
based on attendee pre-program feedback. Finally they will learn
to integrate what is learned expediently upon return. The workshop will help participants understand specific programs, the promise they hold, what works or what does not. Participants will learn to determine which programs will be best suited for addressing their agency needs and individual local situations. Program Goals and Learning Outcomes
Days 3 Integrating Evidence-based & Strength-centered Approaches for Effective Case Management Adopting strength-based approaches is one thing. Integrating them into existing practices is another. Interactions with clients mark where “rubber meets the road”. In managing cases in our care, the quality of our processes, interactions, referral hand-offs can spell success or a client’s failure to reach desired outcomes. So how do you insure success? Learn the simple approaches taught by Mark Lowis, MSW, LMSW, MINT integrating Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive-behavioral skills in case management to meet new state and federal mandates. Effective case management is a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, and advocacy for options and services to meet clients' individual needs - efficiently. In this program presented by Mark Lowis, LMSW, MINT, President, MML Consulting, Inc. we will learn evidence-based practices for this specialty area in human services and how it is applied in various settings. Program Goals and Learning Outcomes: Participants will learn how evidence-based practices that promote quality and effective interventions linking individuals to appropriate resources they need to ultimately succeed at their goals. They will;
Attendee Action-planning Sessions: With Expert Guidance Leave the program armed with a plan for how your agency can move from where it is now to where you are trying to get to. Beginning
with the end in mind, participants will draft an action plan they can
implement upon return. Joyfields Institute expert faculty will be
on hand to guide this exercise. Map out a plan, identify funding sources, and get feedback that will increase likelihood of success. Make full use of available expert help, get answers to questions, get clarification, apply what works in your plan. Role-play your presentation in front of peers to fine-tune your plan.
