St. Mary's Inmates Complete Culinary
Classes
The St. Mary's County Detention Center planned to host a graduation
ceremony last night to recognize the first group of inmates to
complete its new culinary training program.
The culinary classes are part of the jail's offender reentry
program, which seeks to prepare offenders to reenter their
communities upon release. Among the issues faced by those leaving
the detention center are lack of education, job training, vocational
experience, housing, substance abuse and mental health treatment
